Deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I) is an endonuclease that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphodiester linkages in DNA, producing oligonucleotides with 5'-phosphate and 3'-hydroxyl termini. It requires divalent cations (Mg2+ or Mn2+) for activity. The bovine pancreatic enzyme is widely used in molecular biology research, including RNA isolation, cell culture, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays.
